Luisa Porritt confirmed as Lib Dem London Mayoral Candidate

London Liberal Democrats have today confirmed Luisa Porritt as their Candidate for Mayor of London in the 2021 election.

In her first comments as the candidate, Luisa Porritt described London as at a “crucial moment” and said she would bring “big ideas and urgent action” to secure its future. Her ideas include putting “homes in the heart of the city” and reshaping London so that its “600 neighbourhoods” lead the recovery.

Concerns about Treatment of Uyghur Muslims in China and the Situation in Hong Kong ‘not urgent enough’ to debate at Council

Liberal Democrat Councillor Rabina Khan and Conservative Group Leader Peter Gold proposed an emergency motion to Tower Hamlets Council on Wednesday 30th September to condemn the treatment of the Uyghur Muslims in China and the situation in Hong Kong, and to issue protest letters to the People’s Republic of China and the UK Foreign Secretary. Despite also being backed by Labour Mayor John Biggs, the Labour Chair said he did not “consider this matter urgent enough to be discussed”.
