Tower Hamlets Lib Dems Elect New Exec for 2021 and Create Diversity Officer Role

On 28 October 2020 members of the Tower Hamlets Liberal Democrats met for their 2020 AGM. At the AGM the members selected the new exec for 2021 and also created a new constitutional role of Diversity Officer for the local party.

The Constitution of Tower Hamlets Liberal Democrats did not previously include a designated role of Diversity Officer alongside the other roles (such as Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Data Officer, Membership Officer). The motion to create a position of Diversity Officer was passed overwhelmingly with 96% of the vote. The motion was proposed by Simran Kaur and seconded by Graham Reilly.

At the AGM members also got to hear from Luisa Porritt, Lib Dem Candidate for Mayor of London, and Anood Al-Samerai, Director of the 2021 Campaign. The AGM was also attended by Josh Babarinde and Andrew Cregan, the candidates for Bethnal Green & Bow and Poplar & Limehouse, respectively, in the 2019 General Elections.

The new Exec for 2021 comprises:

  • Chair: Richard Flowers
  • Vice Chair: Mahbub Alam
  • Secretary: Warwick Danks
  • Treasurer: Stephen Clarke
  • Membership Officer: Michael Robinson
  • Data Officer: Dominic Buxton
  • Ordinary Members: Liza Franchi, Morgan Jones, Graham Reilly
  • Diversity Officer [currently vacant pending co-option as of 3 February 2021].

Tara Copeland continues as the Young Liberals Representative to the Tower Hamlets Liberal Democrats Exec. Cllr Rabina Khan continues as part of the Exec as our Councillor in Tower Hamlets.

The AGM also voted to appoint Cllr Hina Bokhari (number 2 on the Lib Dem London Assembly List) and Md Abul Asad as Honorary Presidents.
