Kim Nottage and Akhlaqur Rahman have been selected to be the Lib Dem candidates in Stepney Green for the May 2022 council elections.
Kim Nottage has lived in Tower Hamlets all her life, both studying and working within the Borough. She has three grown up children who all attended school in Tower Hamlets and know how important it is to live within a good neighbourhood.
For over 20 years she has worked in Education in schools admin, 10 of these years spent working in Tower Hamlets schools, as well as serving as a school governor. Over the past 18 months she has attended a full council, cabinet and scrutiny meeting in regards to safeguarding elderly and vulnerable adults after losing her mother to COVID in a care home.
Kim Nottage said:
“I know and understand the importance of education and having a safe environment for all children to learn. In my roles I have provided a front line service to parents and carers being someone they can approach for advise.
I worked throughout the pandemic organising vouchers for families whose children were entitled to free school meals and delivered food parcels to families who were unable to collect them in person.”
Akhlaqur Rahman has been a resident in Redcoat estate, Stepney Green area for over 27 years. He moved to the borough as a young man, studied at Sir John Cass School, and has been involved with numerous community organisations, locally and nationally. He has served as a Steering Group member for Housing Choice for the Stepney Green & Clichy area and Assistant Secretary for Redcoat Community Centre.
Akhlaqur Rahman said:
"I feel proud to work and live in this borough. My involvement as an active member of the local community has given me an insight into the issues people experience. I have realised the importance of raising a voice on behalf of the community in order to convey their message.
I have organized various public gatherings and fundraising events, and I feel my involvement so far has made a positive impact and changed many lives.
If elected, I look forward to continuing my service to the community by representing the people of Stepney."
