The Liberal Democrats in Tower Hamlets doubled their vote share in last week's General Election, now nipping the heels of the Conservatives in Poplar & Limehouse - and ready to act as the main challengers to Labour.
Thanks to the support and efforts of voters and members across the borough, the Liberal Democrats in Tower Hamlets managed to double their vote share across the borough. This is on the back of a strong performance at the European Parliament Elections earlier in 2019, where the party secured 20% of the vote across the borough (just 5% behind Labour!)
In Poplar & Limehouse, where former councillor, Andrew Cregan was standing, the party jumped from 6.7% to 14.4% in the polls. In Poplar & Limehouse the Liberal Democrats are now just behind the Conservative Party, and poised to take over as the main challengers to Labour.
In Bethnal Green & Bow, where Josh Babarinde was the Liberal Democrat candidate - the party also doubled its vote share - from 5% to 9.7%.
Nationally, the party increased its vote share by 4%.
The Liberal Democrats are in a strong position to elect Siobhan Benita as Mayor of London this coming May, where voters across the capital will get to vote for a brighter future under a proportional voting system.
