Affordable homes

The local Council has approved a number of developments that miss its’ target of 30% affordable homes. A recently approved development in Limehouse is likely to have an asking price of £595,000 for a 1 bedroom “affordable” home. The Liberal Democrats believe that developments should not be approved if this target is not met and these homes are not affordable for the majority of Tower Hamlets residents. What should the Council focus on?

    Q: Any other comments?
A: HI Dear Date Sun 28/5/17
I coming home from work at 9:30pm walking into Dellow st I see around 6 youths.
Some of them are wearing blue jeans, some are wearing black trousers and dark
tops, all of Asian ethnicity. They are sitting in a gang directly on the stairs and
main entrance to Solander gardens building blocking the entrance. They are
laughing loudly, disturbing residents who live in the area as they are there until late
at night and also those walking home as they are making them feel unsafe.

    Q: Any other comments?
A: I will only be able to access the new Town Hall ‘with difficulty’. I want more affordable housing in London. But Tower Hamlet council is quite densely populated. So we should look to build for more affordable housing in places like Greenwich rather than building massive tower blocks in already congested Tower Hamlet area. We need more green space in Tower Hamlets not more tower blocks. I do not support council tax rises, especially if it is unnecessary. So I think that the Tower Hamlet council should reverse this rise in council tax. I want my taxes to go towards public services, not councillors. So I do not support councillors and Mayor receiving a pay rise.

A: Greater attention needs to be given to the impact of current commercial enterprises on the health, infrastructure, environment and aesthetic of the borough. A considered, joined-up strategy to encourage innovative, sustainable enterprise that adds value to the community is needed. Dozens of chicken shops are not.
