Our first Pizza & Politics of 2016 will be held on 16 February, in preparation for the March Spring Conference. Pizza & Politics evenings are a great opportunity for local Lib Dem members to meet and debate key issues in a friendly, informal format - accompanied of course by lots of pizza.
For this event, we will be discussing some of the key motions that are scheduled for the Conference, to discuss our position on these and consider whether to submit any amendments. We will have speakers for each key topic, plus there will be a choice of 'bonus' topics to debate on the night! These are the motions we will be choosing from:
- Economic Policy
- A fairer deal for private renters
- Regulatory framework for cannabis
- Privacy and security in a digital age
- Electing diverse Members of Parliament
- Constitutional amendments (further one member one vote)
"Diverse Members of Parliament" includes All Women Shortlists, and we think this will be the hot debate of the Conference – how can we say we are a liberal party when our MPs have no representation for women, black and minority ethnic, lesbian, gay & bisexual, trans or disabled people? Or is positive discrimination fundamentally illiberal and ends up undermining the people it's supposed to help? Which way do you think the debate should go?
If you plan to join us at Conference (and we hope you will) this is a great opportunity to listen to speakers' views on the matters, and share your own. If you cannot join us, this will give you the opportunity to share your views as we prepare for the Conference votes.
Dinner and discussion will start from 7pm, in the upstairs room of the Bow Bells. There is no charge for this event, but we suggest a £5 donation to cover the booking fee (pizza will be arranged separately when everyone arrives).
Please contact Stephen on 07505 982212 if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you there!
