Please RSVP below to let us know if you are able to attend our campaign events and socials.
Our first action day since the start of the year! We will be getting together on Zoom to ring other members across Tower Hamlets. It will be sociable, and you will help us kick-start our campaigns for 2021 and 2022.
All welcome and there will be training available on the day or ahead of time if you aren't sure. All you need is a phone and a computer.
No need to come for the full 3.5 hours, you can drop in and out at times to suit you. Or let us know if you can't make it but could do some phone calls at a different time - contact details below.
More details soon.
Join us for the Liberal Democrat Book Club!
WHAT IS IT?
Tower Hamlets Lib Dems are co-hosting a fortnightly book club along with the Camden and Watford local parties and in conjunction with the Young Liberals' Book Club. The Diversity Officers of the three local parties have come together to host the book club.
Every two weeks: the next session will be Sunday 1st November at 8:00PM where we will discuss the book our members voted to read next: Black and British - A Forgotten History by David Olusoga.
Sunday 1st Nov Chapters ONE to THREE Sunday 15th Nov Chapters FOUR to SIX Sunday 29th Nov Chapters SEVEN to NINE Sunday 13th Dec Chapters TEN to TWELVE Sunday 27th Dec Chapters THIRTEEN to CONCLUSION
Dates & chapters subject to change
WHAT'S THE FORMAT?
Read a few chapters of a book and discuss it on an hour-long Zoom call once every two weeks.
The books will initially be themed on topics related to increasing the understanding of diversity & inclusion issues.
During August & September, we read and discussed Why I'm No Longer Talking To White People About Race, by Reni Eddo-Lodge, including a fringe session at the Lib Dem Conference.
In October to December, we have chosen as a group to read Black and British - A Forgotten History by David Olusoga.
Bear in mind that we will discussed the unabridged version of the book. A new version has just come out entitled Black and British - A Short, Essential History (mainly aimed at schoolchildren). This version is also excellent and well worth a read (particularly if you don't have time to get into the original) but we will focus on the unabridged version in our discussions.
DO I HAVE TO HAVE READ THE BOOK TO PARTICIPATE?
You don't need to have read the book every time to participate in the discussion: we are keeping it informal to allow as many people as possible to come together and discuss the issues. Before each session, we will aim to send out a summary of the reading for the week, and some questions we will be discussing.
Our new book also has an accompanying BBC TV series, which can be found here:
But please bear in mind that the episodes won't match the book or our sessions exactly.
DO I HAVE TO BE A LIB DEM TO JOIN THE BOOK CLUB?
No, the book club is open to anyone who is interested in the issues of Diversity & Inclusion, so feel free to bring friends along.
DOES IT COST ANYTHING?
No, other than buying, borrowing or listening to the book, there is no cost involved. We won't even try to guilt you into making a donation!
HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?
RSVP below and we will send you all the details you need to join us!
A talk on voting reform and the case for proportional representation from the Make Votes Matter campaign in collaboration with the Tower Hamlets Lib Dems, followed by a Q&A and discussion.
Come along and hear about why our democracy desperately needs voting reform, and what you can do to help make it happen.
All welcome, not just Lib Dem members!
