It seems hard to believe that today marks one year since I joined you in the Liberal Democrats, turning my back on what has become a hard-left populist Labour Party.
At the time, I said that I believed that “Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership has taken the Labour Party backwards in many ways, and he has failed to put forward the overwhelming case for remaining in the European Union, both during the referendum campaign and ever since. In doing so he has let down all the people of Britain”
I stand by those words today.
One year on and the Tories continue to drive Britain towards the car crash of Brexit and Labour continue to help them every step of the way.
I’m proud to be a Liberal Democrat because Britain has never needed us more than it does today.
2018 is an important year for Britain. This is our last chance to call for an Exit From Brexit. May 3 is our chance to send a message.
I’ve been amazed since I joined at how hard working and committed you all are as a team. And since 2015, you have grown in vote share at every election – rising to every challenge.
Thank you all for the welcome and support you have given me over the past year. As I told our annual Conference in Bournemouth last year – joining the Liberal Democrats is the best decision I ever made.
See you on the campaign trail
