Muhammad Abul Asad has been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the Lansbury by-election on 7thth February. Muhammad Abul Asad brings his extensive experience as a community campaigner and Councillor.
Muhammad Abul Asad has strong community links, with over 28 years experience as an elected councillor on Tower Hamlets Council. During his time on the Council, he was the very first Bengali member to be appointed as Chair of the Education Committee.
His campaigning experience includes homelessness, planning development, health and local regeneration.
In addition to this he served as the appointed Mayor of Tower Hamlets Council in 1998/1999. He led notable fundraising efforts in the borough to support flood relief in Bangladesh after devastating floods. His work to build bridges continues to this day, as a founding member of Liberal Democrat Friends of Bangladesh.
Asad has also been a GLA list candidate twice, and an MEP list candidate.
