WHAT IS IT?
Tower Hamlets Lib Dems are co-hosting a fortnightly book club along with the Camden and Watford local parties and in conjunction with the Young Liberals' Book Club. The Diversity Officers of the three local parties have come together to host the book club.
WHEN?Every two weeks: the next session will be Saturday 6th September at 8PM, where we will pick up the conversations from last time and discuss chapters 4 & 5.
WHAT'S THE FORMAT?
Read a few chapters of a book and discuss it on an hourly Zoom call once every two weeks.
The books will initially be themed on topics related to increasing the understanding of diversity & inclusion issues.
The first book we are reading is 'Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race', by Reni Eddo-Lodge.
23rd August: Chapters 1-3
6th September: Chapters 4-5
Other dates TBC
We will likely decide as a group what books to read in the future.
We are coordinating our reading of books with the Young Liberals, who will have a separate, but parallel book club going at the same time. We aim to bring both groups together at the end of the book for a wider discussion.
DO I HAVE TO HAVE READ THE BOOK TO PARTICIPATE?
You don't need to have read the book every time to participate in the discussion: we are keeping it informal to allow as many people as possible to come together and discuss the issues.
DO I HAVE TO BE A LIB DEM TO JOIN THE BOOK CLUB?
No, the book club is open to anyone who is interested in the issues of Diversity & Inclusion, so feel free to bring friends along.
DOES IT COST ANYTHING?
No, other than buying, borrowing or listening to the book, there is no cost involved. We won't even try to guilt you into making a donation!
HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?
